About Beat Alzheimer’s

Our Mission

At Beat Alzheimer’s, we’re on a mission to reduce the number of those developing Alzheimer’s disease through education, awareness, and practical lifestyle modifications. I’m Neil Hogan, and I founded Beat Alzheimer’s in 2022 as part of my postgraduate studies at Trinity College Dublin. We're dedicated to spreading a crucial message: Alzheimer's is largely preventable.

The Alzheimer's Challenge

Alzheimer's disease is a complex neurodegenerative disorder affecting millions worldwide. Recent studies suggest that as much as 22% of the population over the age of 50, could already have a diagnosis or are, as of yet, unaware that the disease is developing in their brains. Even more alarmingly, “one in three people born today may develop dementia in their lifetime”. Dr Richard Oakley, Alzheimer’s Society

However, there's hope. Scientific research suggests we can reduce our risk of developing Alzheimer's by up to 88% through lifestyle changes. Our goal is to make this knowledge accessible and actionable for everyone.

About Neil

I am a certified Dementia Prevention Coach, an accredited Cognitive Stimulation Therapy Trainer, and a certified Montreal Cognitive Assessment Rater. With a background in Human Resource Management and Nutrition, my journey into Alzheimer's prevention began when I noticed a growing trend of dementia cases in my community.

Driven by a passion for making a difference, I undertook a postgraduate programme in Healthcare Innovation at Trinity College, Dublin. While there I developed the Sharper Brains course, which includes a Healthy Lifestyle Assessment (HLA), and the A-PLAN, a personalised lifestyle programme for the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.

Beat Alzheimer's Approach

Beat Alzheimer's takes a holistic, evidence-based approach to Alzheimer's prevention:

Education: We deliver community-based education through workshops, seminars, and courses.

Assessment: Our Healthy Lifestyle Assessment (HLA) helps identify individual risk factors.

Personalised Plans: We create tailored A-PLANs based on the latest scientific research (and work with you to ensure the best outcomes)

Community Partnerships: We collaborate with organisations serving individuals with Alzheimer's and related dementias.

By focusing on actionable causes and providing specific, practical solutions, we aim to help individuals maintain brain health and prevent cognitive decline as they age. Join us in our mission to beat Alzheimer's – because prevention is, in most cases, possible, and it starts with you.
